S. O. S. Profile: Gordon "Chef" Ramsay

Name: Gordon Ramsay

Callsign: Chef

Player: Dave

Faction:
 Lyran Alliance - House Steiner

Rank:
Staff Sergeant Major

(Head Chef)

Unit:
3rd Royal Guard;
Command Staff Support

Current Battlemech:
Highlander HGR-732

Arena Kills:0

Best finish:
7th of 12- Battle #8 - (Jungle)

Current Stable: none

Current Sponsors: none

Background:  Gordon Ramsey is the pride of the 3rd Royal Guard.  Not for his ability on the field of battle, but for his skills in the kitchen.

He started out as the typical Lyran mechwarrior, though he has always had problems dealing with authority figures.  Working better alone than as part of a unit, Ramsay usually found the wrath of his XO.  This along with a tough as nails attitude landed him on the receiving end of verbal abuse from many a commanding officer.  Time and time again he was re-assigned after he outlasted the worst his CO could throw at him.

That was until he landed in the 3rd Royal Guard.  It was there they accidentally discovered Ramsay's skill in the kitchen.  His prepration of a field ration kit, so impressed his CO, he was re-assigned to the Command Company and eventually became the head chef for the battalion when on combat deployment.  There he is the one barking orders to his subordinates, using his past experiences on the receiving end and turning them about..

He comes to the Solaris Olympiad representing the Lyran Alliance.  He is a replacement for Archibald "Apollo" Kennedy in the top tier of Olympiad contestants.  Kennedy was found dead in an alley behind the Coliseum arena.  Many think he was removed by an over zealous Lyran supporter, after "Apollo" foolishly teamed with the Clan Ghost Bear contestant against other inner sphere mechwarriors.

"Chef" Ramsey solo style has served him well in the Olympiad so far.  Though he lost his mech, an Axman, in his last match.  He has been placed in the Main event for Battle #7 "The Commando Challenge".  Representing House Steiner, in the Steiner Coliseum, in a match sponsored by the Archon herself is a tall order...But as always Ramsey is up for the challenge.

Taking the case and given the temporary rank of Hauptmann, Burton is ready to put his 1042 hours of clocked mech simulator time to good use in finding out what is really going on in the Solaris 7 games.

Background:

Charles Jackson grew up on the border of the Periphery watching the sand blow across the arid land of his family’s moisture farm. He was a normal youth with a propensity for getting into trouble. So they sent him off to military school in the hopes that he would grow up. 40 years later, it still hasn’t happened. He spent time in the infantry and worked his way into recon mechs. Then he moved on to bigger and better mechs, with only his off duty antics and love of grain alcohol keeping his promotion potential down.

He retired after many campaigns as a skilled warrior, with only farming or Solaris 7 as options. He chose Solaris and has spent many years in the minor leagues as an “also ran,” many times showing up to matches drunk. He has a small loyal following and makes just enough winnings to stay at it. The last thing he expected was to be promoted to the A league tournament.
Funny things happen when two other Davion pilots die in the tourney, and nobody else will accept the call up.

"Archie" Kennedy comes long line of mechwarriors.  Someone in his family has been a mechwarrior with one of the Lyarn Guard or Regular units since the foundation of the Lyran Commonwealth.

At this time though, he is a Mechwarrior without a unit.  A loyal supporter of House Steiner, he fought along side his unit the 5th Lyran Regulars to their destruction in February of just this year.  his usnit fell to the Free Skye Militia on Freedom (formerly known as Carver V), he being one of the few survivors.  He was captured but quickly exchanged for political prisoners.

He was placed on the first jumpship out of Freedom system, that just so happened to be headed to the Solaris VII system.  Knowing his skill and future potential, his commanding officers thought it would be best for Kennedy to get his feet back under him on the arena floor, rather than in the trenches of the FedCom Civil war.  The timing was right, with the Solaris Olympiad starting and the there being an open slot that the Lyran's needed to fill.

So arriving late, after Jumpship issues delayed his arrival.  Kennedy is ready to represent House Steiner in the initial Solaris Olympiad Series..

Background:

Fritz Gruber is an interesting sort with a sordid past. He started life on the edge of civilized Davion space on a backwater planet near the periphery. His childhood saw him leading his friends into trouble by concocting all sorts of overly complicated schemes that  would generally not end as planned. As a young adult this trend continued as he began to run a crime spree throughout the planet and eventually neighboring systems with larger and more complex capers that either failed spectacularly, or were somehow were wildly successful.

He made a great deal of money and bought some land from some of the outland barons and set up a ranch, where he fancied himself a pulp hero from the ancient vids, even going so far as to carry outdated pistols and dressing up like a cowboy and fighting pistol duels. He also used his wealth to buy mechs and set up duels and contests versus other mechwarriors, eventually becoming proficient as a pilot.

Eventually one of his failures led to his capture, conviction and sentencing to a penal facility on "The Rock" far in Lyran area of the Federated Commonwealth.  When the planet was attacked by the clans in 3049, the prison was destroyed.  He used his pistol skills to kill a clanner who was doing field repairs, and his mech skills to capture some more mechs and supplies. Leading a number of prisoners, he lead several daring raids and earned a name for himself. Although he was using the situation to enrich himself and had dreams of an eventual return to being a robber baron, this scheme also did not turn out as planned. He had so many high profile victories, he was eventually pardoned, and even considered a Davion hero.

He was not sure what to do with this newfound fame but determined to use it to amass a new fortune, and happened across a Davion sponsor for Solaris 7, and a new Star was born. His fighting style is much like his life, force a decisive engagement, and plan to  hit the jackpot.  This almost always leads to fireworks, if not victories, making him a fan favorite.

Born in the Peabody system, in the city of New Boston in 3004, "Mayday" is the elder contestant here at the Solaris Olympiad.  “Mayday” earned his fame fighting alongside the fellow members of the “BoSox” company against the Jade Falcons during the initial Clan invasion.

Always quick to charm, Mayday had quite the reputation as a ladies man. His prowess on the battlefield, although short lived, was nothing spectacular. Saving his earnings, Sam retired with his health. Realizing that making your way in the Fed Suns took everything you got, he opened a bar near the New Avalon Institute of Science. Malone knew all the regulars by name, and they were always glad that they arrived at his establishment.  Recent lean times has forced Sam to sell his bar and return to the fighting pits of Solaris, hoping the win enough money to buy it back from the corporation that bought it.

Background:
Director John Palmer leads a charmed life. Fresh out of academy he was assigned to the Grenadiers aerospace squadron and stationed at the Praxton moonbase. During a routine sector sweep he visually spotted a bandit Union class dropship slipping past the moons sensor arrays during a solar flare. In the ensuing dogfight he abandoned his craft after taking laser fire to his cockpit. The Thrush careened out of control and impacted into the dropship crippling one of its engines and causing it to make a forced landing where it and its valuable raider mech cargo were mopped up by ground forces. The Alliance brass assumed the move was deliberate and Palmer was promoted.
His mech pilot scores were commendable so he was given one of the two WASP LAMS salvaged from the bandits. Given command of a garrison lance outside Praxton's third largest city he again saw combat when a separatist faction tried to seize control of the modest spaceport. His small force was quickly overrun and during his attempt to switch from mech to aerospace mode to fly for reinforcements he was knocked unconscious from PPC fire and his mech fell atop the secondary control tower destroying it. When he awoke moments later he discovered that the separatist leader and his team had captured the tower and were using it to jam the main towers comm. All the terrorists inside were killed when the building collapsed. Leaderless the separatist mechs fled and Palmer found himself promoted to Section Leader for his quick thinking and bravery.
Given the second WASP LAM he was given the task of finding the rebels on Praxton and destroying their power base. He proved himself able enough as a commander in this task and after two short years he had driven them to a small island where their last vestige of strength lay. Amidst the assault Palmer's WSP 105 jumped atop what he had assumed was a ferrocrete bivouac. It turned out to be a wood and tin munitions shed. The resulting explosion destroyed his mech and took all the fight out of the surviving rebels.
Finally back from his reconstructive surgery and sporting a brand new cyber-mylar arm he accepted his commendation and promotion to Director. Chairman Rice, CO of the Grenadiers spoke at length with many of the officers that had served with him and after careful consideration has decided that rather than command an entire company of very valuable mechs and their support he would better serve the Alliance as a sterling example of bravery, skill and resilience. With his shiny new medals he is happy to represent the Outworlds Alliance at the Solaris Olympiad. Let his foes beware!

Khan Phelan Kell himself dubbed him the "Bad Wolf" both as a comment on his prowess and on their exiled status. Radick hopes that his victories will show the other clans that his clan has made the right decision and that by his example his misguided brethren will come around.

Background:
Flashy (Harry Flashman) is a charismatic man and the image of an ideal Federated Commonwealth officer. He claims only three natural talents: Mech piloting, facility with foreign languages, and womanizing. He's become an expert cricket bowler, but that was through hard effort (he needed sporting credit at Rugby School, and was afraid to play rugby football). He can also display a winning personality, when he wants to, and is very skilled at flattering those more important than himself without appearing servile.

As he admits, Flashy is a coward, who will flee from danger if there is any way to do so, and on some occasions collapses in funk. He has one great advantage in concealing this weakness: when he is frightened, his face turns red, rather than white, so that observers think he is excited, enraged, or exuberant - as a hero ought to be.

After his expulsion from school for drunkenness, Flashy looked for an easy life. He had his wealthy father buy him an Lyran officer's commission in the fashionable 10th Donegal Guards stationed in the system of Chateau. The 10th, commanded by Marshal Sarah Steiner, was a unit of renown in Lyran space.  Flashy threw himself into the social life that the 10th offered and became a leading light of Chateau society. A duel with another officer over a courtesan led to his being relocated to a different continent on Chateau. There he met and deflowered Elspeth Morrison, daughter of a wealthy Lyran weapons developer, whom he had to marry in a "shotgun wedding".  Though he was kicked out of the 10th for "actions unbecoming an officer".  The day he was to ship out, The Clans struck Chateau, wiping out the 10th and none lived to tell the tale.  He fled the system along with the other refugees.

Unfortunately, his language talent and his habit of flattery brought him to the attention of the Morgan Kell.  Flashy having weaseled his way into a royal banquet on Tharkad, found himself rubbing elbows with the Grand Duke of Arc-Royal.  After hearing Flashy's version of escaping Clan Wolf on Chateau, Morgan offered him a position with the Kell Hounds.

His first action with the Hounds was the 2nd battle of Twycross, against Clan Jade Falcon.  Flashy, in fleeing from the Falcon Guard, led them right into the trap that had been set by Kai Allard-Liao.  Battle turned in favor of the FedCom forces, when Falcon Guard were lured into a deep canyon where Kai Allard-Liao detonated planted powerful explosives in the canyon walls. Resulting in Jade Falcon Guards destruction by being buried under rock and rubble.  Flashy close enough to the mouth of the canyon, that his Shadow Hawk battlemech was only partially buried from the rock slide.  A video crew captured the image of the Shadow Hawk emerging from the rubble that had claimed nearly 50 Falcon mechs.  Flashman's fame of the incident was only surpassed by Kai Allard-Liao.

Flashy survived the ensuing debacle by a mixture of sheer luck and unstinting cowardice. He became an unwitting hero: The Defender of Luithen's primary LRM ammo factory, where he was the only surviving Kell Hound from his company.  Flashy was found by the relieving troops in his armless shutdown Shadow Hawk surrounded by destroyed Smoke Jaguar battlemechs. Of course, Flashy arrived at the Ammo factory by accident, collapsed in terror rather than fight, was forced to stand and fight by his subordinate, and was 'pegged' for a complete coward. He had been trying to surrender with the arms of his kneeling Shadow Hawk upraised when the the primary ammo storage warehouse was hit.  Every mech within 200m was destroyed, except for Flashy who only lost the arms of his mech to the blast due to the kneeling position.  The reinforced lower walls of the warehouse protected everything under 5m.  Happily for him, all inconvenient witnesses had been killed.

This incident set the tone for Flashy's life. Always in spite of his best efforts to evade his duty. He was often selected for especially dangerous jobs because of his heroic reputation. He met many famous people, and survived some of the worst military disasters, always coming out with more heroic laurels.

Despite his admitted cowardice, Flashy was a dab hand at fighting when he had to. It should be pointed out that most of these acts of 'bravery' were performed only when he had absolutely no choice, and to do anything else would have resulted in his being exposed as a coward and losing his respected status in society, or being shot for desertion. When he could act like a coward with impunity, he invariably did.

Flashy left the Kell Hounds on Arc-Royal to join with the 1st Davion Guards on New Avalon in Davion space.  He did so to get out of Lyran space and away from transplanted Clan Wolf in Exile who's Clan warriors would see right through Flashy and jeopardize his reputation.  He thought he would be safe, back on a capitol world, living the life in the upper echelons of society.  Then Operation Bulldog was launched and Harry Flashman was once again in the middle of the major conflicts of his time.
With the great success of the 7th Company of the 1st Davion Guards on Port Arthur, Flashy went on to receive his choice of postings.  In classic Flashy style he chose a base as far away from the fighting as possible.  Choosing to train as a military advisor on New Avalon and was living the life of luxury.  No sooner did he complete his first class then he was reassigned to Courchevel, a Draconis Combine world, along their border with Clan Ghost Bear.  Flashy having been selected for the post as he was one of the few Davion officers that the Kuritans trusted.  Indications were the the Ghost Bears might make a grab at some of the Combine worlds that the Smoke Jaguars had just given up, and sure enough...the Combine-Ghost Bear War started with Flashy again in the middle of the fighting.
His unit was desperately outnumbered and making it's last stand, putting up a tremendous fight against overwhelming odds.  He was hiding behind a barricade that protected his mechs torsos and head...(the important parts) with downed mechs all around him.  Star Colonel Katrina Homaovi saw Flashy's Flashman battlemech.  Out of ammo and her energy weapons destroyed Homaovi charged Flashy with her Grizzly battlemech.  Just before impact one of the dead mech's ammo cooked off blowing out the legs of the Flashman.  The explosion made Homaovi mostly miss her charge but in the tumble he wound up on top of her and both were knocked out.  When the follow up Ghost Bear forces came and saw the devastation and carnage of the last stand- and Flashman mech on top of their commanders Grizzly- they assumed he had been the guy to hold out last and do all the killing.
Star Colonel Katrina Homaovi can't remember any of the how the mechs ended up the way they did, but she was the first to awaken and quickly captured the unconscious Flashman in his cockpit, taking him as a bondsman.  Of course he later woos her, and is never far from her side.

Other Clanners aren't too fond of Flashy obviously, and rumors are starting to go around that when his mech was recovered after the battle it had a full ammo load.  To defend his honor SHE recommends he go to Solaris for the new Solaris Olympiad Series, of course he doesn't want to go.  But he is the logical choice, as all of the trueborn Clan mechwarriors consider the posting beneath them and an insult.
So off to Solaris it is for Flashy, and knowing his luck he will probably end up winning the whole thing.

Background:
When the Olympiad was announced the Marik government was a tad skeptical. Many of the top brass saw it as a way to try and gather important government officials to neutral territory for espionage and/or assassination purposes. Rather than bow out completely they asked for volunteers.

Paul "Ace" Frehley is a rabblerousing upstart and very neurotic (he can only fight in full costume) but also a gifted pilot.  The whole facepaint and costume gimmick started when before a routine patrol. "Ace", who was recently reprimanded for not displaying the Silver Hawk Irregulars logo properly on his uniform, took his response to the extreme.  He had painted Silver Hawk wings on his face as a sort of warpaint.  The unit had a good laugh, and they went out on their mission.  Well, as luck would have it that routine patrol turned into a fierce battle with some raiding pirates.  Ace, ended up saving his Commanding officer's life, and probably much of the company with his actions that day.   After he was out of LRM ammo and this PPC had been knocked out, he landed three "Death from above" style attacks on the pirates with his Griffin battlemech.  A captured pirate mechwarrior said..."That Griffin was bouncing around like some deranged Spaceman in low gravity or something...we had no idea where he was going next."  Well after that day, the Commanding officer of Ace's company said, that Ace could wear any facepaint or uniform he wanted to in his mech if he performed like that.

While his CO might understand Ace, those in the upper levels of command do not.  He would have made Staff Sergeant by now but his poor attitude and inability to follow the chain of command has held him back. The General given the task of picking the Marik Mechwarrior read the dossier and figured if Ace somehow wins, great, if not...well, it will be no big loss.

To: CLASSIFIED
From: Col Will Blake, 31st Bat, Int Div, FWL.

As per your request this is my summary of the information I was able to compile on Jak Black, aka Durty Jack Irish, Aka William Mullen, Aka Heywood JaBlome, Aka Grahm Palson.

Our informants from within the Circinus Federation have a great deal of information surrounding this individual; however as with any of our other paid informants from the region the information has to be cross checked and verified.  In the case of Jak Black alone I found 11 discrepancies where he was reported to be in two places at once, and one where he was apparently raiding while in prison (when we knew him as Heywood Jablowme) before he was exchanged.

This is what I believe to be true.

He was not originally from the CFed, while they produce some fine pilots in a roughshod and undisciplined way he was obviously trained by someone far better than there cadre.  Recorded Vids and Com traffic of him, or who I have a high amount of belief was him, in various raids and actions puts him above the bar for the normal CFed raiders.

While we had him in custody after being caught on CLASSIFIED before being exchanged for CLASSIFIED we were able to gain a copy of his DNA and retinal prints, thou we found no matches for them, he also bore the signs of several facial cosmetic reconstruction surgery’s.  Most important of note was a synthetic arm and leg that were on grade with our own medical services, far beyond that of the local CFeds.  While it is not unheard of for some of them to gain access to such high end treatment, for a unknown pilot to gain access or have the means for such a thing is unheard of.

After his release he has raided under the command of half a dozen raider Captains.  There CFed tradition of changing names when these groups disperse and reform under a new leader makes him very hard to track.  I can verify that he was involved in the sacking of CLASSIFIED and the kidnapping and ransoming of CLASSIFIED and her household.  Other than that it is hit or miss, he may have been involved in 9 different actions against various state and private entities in the meantime but I am unable to substantiate any real proof.

As for his appearance on Solaris, I was able to learn of how he acquired a mech.  Apparently he won it in a card game, thou the man who lost it was dead soon after and Jak's own group of companions were the only others at the table to substantiate his claim to it.  While other Houses and the like have competition amongst themselves before sending competitors to Solaris, The CFed has no formal procedure, they simply go if they have the means.

In the case of Jak Black however his departure was considered somewhat abrupt, while the things that would cause such a suspicion to leave  abruptly are countless the re-occurring theme I picked up in my interviews with our informants appeared to involve a female captain who apparently wishes to do him grievous harm.

S. O. S. Profile: Kaari "Firebush" Byronne

Background:

Kaari started her career as a rather feisty grunt in the Taurian Ground Forces. She started as a heavy weapon specialist and spent her early years as a vehicle support weapon gunner. She received decorations for her actions in support of rescuing Concordat wounded on Setlek 7.

After a few years she applied for and got a posting to sniper school. Kaari became an accomplish sniper for the Concordat. She became a member of one of the Taurian Concordat Offworld Antagonist Teams, the Concordats euphemism for black ops assassins.

Eventually heavy losses to the Taurian Mechwarrior Force caused the High Command to search for new candidates in the active military. Because of Byronnes’ sniper apptitude she was selected. Again she excelled in her new role but saw on limited action as the current war drew to a close.

When the Taurian Concordat began to look at potential pilots to send to Solaris, Kaari seemed a shoe in. Although there were certainly many more experienced pilots within the Concordat, she was a polar opposite of the stereotypical Taurian officer. Where the average Taurian MechWarrior is a dour, weather beaten, fatalistic warrior, Byronne is a humorous, energetic and vivacious adventurer. Exactly the image that the Concordat wants to sell to the galaxy at large, to show that they are a rising power with limitless potential.

The dual PPC wielding BLACKJACK BJ-3 is a mech well suited to her style of piloting too.

So watch out Solarians…there’s a spunky new sheriff in town named FIREBUSH. And don’t sit still for too long…or you too may have fire down below.

S. O. S. Profile: Jensen "Viper" Blayloc

Name: Jensen Blayloc  KIA

Callsign: "Viper"

Player: Scott

Status: KIA, Battle #1, The Factory

Faction: Federated Suns - House Davion

Rank: Hauptmann (Captain)

Unit: 1st Davion Guards, 7th Company (reserve status)

Current Battlemech: TBD

Arena Kills: 0

Best finish: 5th - The Factory - Battle #1 (Killed)

Current Stable: none

Current Sponsors: none

Background:
Born on Arcadia during the waning years of the Third Succession War, Jensen was the third son of a minor noble. Raised as were most in his position, to be military and likely Mechwarriors, he attended New Avalon Institute of Science, College of Military Science.

The College of Military Science: Arguably the most prestigious military academy in the Inner Sphere, CMS turns out high-quality cadets in all military specialties. Formerly the New Avalon Military Academy, the NAMA was founded during the Star League years after it took over Albion Military Academy, with the NAIS built around the academy. Home to some of the most advanced training equipment in the Inner Sphere, CMS lacks nothing in the way of equipment or facilities, with plenty of training ‘Mechs, fighters, and simulators for any conceivable ‘Mech design known today. The College also boasts three Gauntlets, special ‘Mech training grounds. Its large alumni base includes such notable graduates as Kai Allard-Liao.

His early career like most officers during peacetime was training and standing station on backwater planets making nice to the locals during liberty. That all changes with the Clan invasion. Jensen and his NAIS training unit were deployed to the Capellan border, replacing troops that were to being reassigned to the Clan front.  He has seen action on over a dozen worlds, mostly defensive actions against raids by House Liao.  In 3052 his training unit was stood down, and all the Mechwarriors were reassigned to other units.  Jensen found himself a member of the 1st Davion Guards.

His callsign is a result of a tactic he likes to employ, lie in wait until the enemy gets into optimal range, and then introduce yourself with an alpha strike.

His goal has never been to be a hero, but to go out, complete the objective, and return home alive. He likes to say: "Glory comes from being in the wrong tactical position, taking unnecessary risks, and usually landing you and your shiny new ribbons in the same box." and "If you find yourself in a fair fight, you have screwed up someplace."

He gained a great deal of combat experience in Operation Bulldog. During this time, he experienced everything a military campaign has to offer; the bitterness of defeat, the loss of valued friends, the toils and hardship known only to those who fight on the front lines. He also learned the thrill of victory, the camaraderie that can only be forged in battle, and earned experience that will serve him throughout his life.   After Bulldog the 7th company was placed on reserve status on New Avalon, have earned a well deserved break for their actions on Port Arthur.

Wanting to build on his experience and hone his battle skills Jensen decided to go to Solaris 7, in an attempt to learn by fighting the very best mechwarriors available. Given the cache earned by the victory Port Arthur, he was given the initial blessing of his house. Having spent 2 years on the practice circuit, he was tapped to represent the Federated Suns in the first ever Solaris Olympiad Series.  Eventually he plans to return to active duty with the goal of becoming a unit commander.

Background:  Sang-Wei (Captain) Byron Crais was a ruthless, fast rising officer in the Death Commandos.  He received his first promotion in the unit as a reward by the Commandos Commanding Officer Micheal Hyung-Tsei.  The battlefield promotion was issued after Crais had executed another Death Commando for displaying marginally reckless attitude that was placing the unit in danger.  The Commando he executed was being unruly and threatened to attack another Commando on the team during an under cover mission deep in Davion Space.  Without a second thought, Crais shot the unprofessional officer, stopping the potential brawl and earning Crais the nickname "Peacekeeper" among the Commandos.

Crais' fast track in the Commandos was derailed when he came down with Kamakura Syndrome.  Kamakura Syndrome is an incurable genetic disease that attacks the inner ear of the victim.  The victim is fine other than being overly susceptible to space sickness.  After a Jump those with Kamakura Syndrome fall extremely ill, most lapse into a coma for roughly a week and are in a weakened state for over a month.  This was the case with Crais...ending his time with the often space traveling Death Commandos.

His reputation as a Death Commando was limiting to his future options.  Many unit commanders would not take on an officer that has killed one of his fellow officers.  This left Crais without a home.  He had applied to become one of the Chancellors personal guards when the Solaris Olympiad Series was announced.  The Chancellors staff thought Crais was a natural fit for the position, and after a quick audience with Sun-Tsu Liao, Crais secured his destiny.

Crais left right away for Solaris with the Chancellor's blessing.  He awoke from his illness induced coma in the Cathay district on Solaris 7, a warrior reborn.  He had found a way to best serve the Confederation and his Chancellor.  His illness would not be an issue with the year long contest on Solaris.  The Solaris Olympiad Series was to begin next month well after all symptoms of his illness had passed.  Crais was again a Death Commando maybe not in name, but he would be one in action.  The Solaris Olympiad Series was his to take for House Liao.  Let all the Inner Sphere throw their best at Crais.  He is ready for them.
