Jak Black pre-battle interview...Battle #3
The following post is rated R for Restricted. (Jak Black is a pretty bad dude, Yah shouldn't be reading it if you are under 18...You were warned)
The things I will do for ratings, Andrea thought to herself as she entered the “Scrap Yard”. It was painfully loud, she could feel the beat of the music slamming into her. Her recording drone was having fits between the strobes and the music and it was returning nothing but crap for signal. She was also sure the Ape at the second door she had to pass through had felt her up while checking for “concealed weapons”. As if the the battery of scanners she had to walk through to get in here would not be enough... Oh, and to top it off it stank of sweat and piss. Her channel had put out the feeler for an interviews to half a dozen of this seasons contestants, unfortunately this Jak Black, some C-Fed wannabe thug from out in the periphery was the only one to respond. As the lead reporter here, the face of Chan6 Solaris, she had to go interview him. He probably picked this place to push some bad boy image, as there was no other reason she could think of that anyone would ever hang out in dives like this, full of gutter punks and joy girls and rough necks.
She was currently being lead across the huge hanger bay dance floor by no less than 3 rejects from some elemental program somewhere. She briefly wondered why they got to go armed as they showed her to a lift. She was relived when the doors closed and both the music and stink faded as it rose, despite being stuffed in between these three stooges. When the lift stopped she was motioned forward into some kind of a meeting room. It was soundproofed and while you could look out the glass wall that filled up one side of it you could hear nothing from the dance floor below.
Jak Black, stupid name and all, was sitting there waiting for her. He motioned for her to come in and sit as he looked up from a data slate. Stripped to the waist and sporting a mix of ghetto tatto's and scars he looked like he was trying to hard to be a gangster. Course the bio wraps to treat a fresh burn all over his one real arm (the other was some kind of synthetic) and side of his face threw her off briefly, but she beamed a smile sat down, checking to make sure her drone was functional. Her background information on him was spotty, and smelled of being made up. It was like they cooked up some space pirate out of the holo-vid market and tagged it on this guy as some kind of PR campaign.
She started off easy enough, introduction, thank you for seeing me, blah blah blah and then hit him right across the face with a question about if he had underestimated the opposition here in Solaris based on how badly his first rounds were? He had gotten a leg ripped off in his first round foolishly closing with a mech 20 tons heavier than him on a catwalk. He then proceeded to cook his mech and himself apparently going to to toe, again with a heavier mech, in his second round. He had brought up the rear of the ratings at the start of the season.
She did not get the result she expected. Instead of being taken aback or angry he leaned forward calmly, smiled, and gave her a stare that was so empty and so feral that she herself was stunned. She had to look away and take a minute to compose herself, she had this all wrong... He was not pretending to be some pirate gangster, he was a damn pirate gangster and he looked at her like he was going to rape her, chop her up and sell her parts to some meat doc down here in the gutter where he made his home. He left it there, that uncomfortable silence just long enough to cement the effect before leaning back in his chair and saying, simply, “No, I figured that was how it was going to shake out.”
“Now cher' that I have done your interview you get to do your part and put this out there.” Quicker than she would have thought possible he snatched her record bot from the air and pointed it at his face. “There is a clan scumbag by the name of “Flashman”. I have put 1mill up in an Anonymous C-Star account for whoever takes his ride out of the mix.”
As soon as he finished he released her drone, hit something beside him on the table which caused the elevator door to open and dismissively waved her away. She almost ran to the elevator, despite the three waiting behemoth's inside of it. She had dozens of questions for him, but she was not even remotely upset to be out of there. It was not until she was out of the club and halfway back to her hab in uptown that her heart started to calm down. The theatrics of the interview alone would drive the ratings up, even without the bounty... The channel was going to love this, she was sure. However she made a vow, then and there, that she would never interview or be in the same room with that one again.

Battle #3, Fight Card
Hello Solaris Fans!
This is Duncan Fisher coming to you live from Boreal Reach! Let me tell yah folks, the Davion folks have pulled out all stops for this event. Boreal Reach looks just like "The Devil's Bath" area on Tukayyid. The heat will be a key factor in tonight's contest, the mechwarrior that can keep his mech cool will have quite the advantage over his competitors.
The under cards have fought now we are on to our Main event! We are two sessions into the Series and things are starting to get interesting. Harry Flashman from the Ghost Bear Dominion has an early lead after placing 2nd in Battle #1 and taking the top spot in the following Battle #2B. "Peacekeeper" Crais is right on his heals, having just swapped finishing order in those same two battles with "Flashy". "Ace" Frehley took the top spot in Battle #2A after a poor showing in our initial contest.
In this evening's event we have Twelve mechwarrior's squaring off. The Lyran Alliance mecharrior has arrived, and the issues with "Katana" Shimada's Diamyo have been corrected. Both are eager to represent their Nations in the arena.
All the contestants bring a wide range of mechs, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. Newcomer to the main event grouping is Cyril "Truckasaurus" Spencer takes the place of Randall "Honey Badger" Pelton who didn't survive an Ammo explosion in his Hatchetman when battling in the tunnels of Ishiyama. Spencer is certainly not a crowd favorite, and will be even less so when he walks his new Awesome AWS-9Q onto the field. Also somewhat new to the Main event grouping is is Fritz "Fritzkreig" Gruber, having brought in to fill the space left by "Viper" Bayloc's death in Battle #1. He brings the Davion remodeled version of a Black Knight that has one of their cutting edge targeting computers. That will either make him a favorite or a favorite target of the session.
Here is how the Solaris Bookmakers see the tonight's contest...Whoah...whoah whaoh!
(Byron "Peacekeeper" Crais bursts onto the set and pushes Duncan Fisher out of the way so that Crais is the only one on camera.)
(Stares at producer off camera and softly speaks)
I have something important to say. If you value your limbs in their unbroken state, do not stop this transmission.
(Crais directly to the Camera in a more commanding voice)
Fellow Mechwarriors, I have just been informed of some very disturbing news. It seems that not all of us in the Olympiad believe that pure skill should be the determining factor of who wins this event. Some of us apparently feel they must rely on computers to do the work a capable mechwarrior would be able to do with their own abilities. My blood boils to think that some would stoop to this level. I will not allow these selections to go unchallenged.
First, I'm placing a One Million C-Bill bounty, claimable by the mechwarrior or shared among the mechwarriors that destroys the Davion Black Knight. Mr. Gruber wants to flex Davion's technological advances, let us see just how capable the Fedreated Suns cherished targeting computer really is.
Second and more importantly, is our invader from beyond the rim. Mr. Flashman not only brings a Clan targeting computer into our arena of champions, but he links it with the all too accurate Clan Pulse lasers. Any raw recruit with this combination would seem like an battle hardened veteran of many campaigns. Perhaps "Flashy" is a Bear without claws, having to rely on the clans technological advantage to win his battles for him. I hereby place a Three million C-Bill bounty claimable by the mechwarriors that destroy the Ghost Bear Goshawk.
Be warned the rest of you who might go down this dark path...So long as I have the funds available to me, I will continue to place bounties on those mechs carrying a targeting computer.
Flashman...I'm coming for you.
(Crais storms off the set. Duncan Fisher, steps back in front of the camera looking where Crais just left)
Come back anytime there "Peacekeeper". Well you heard it here first folks...Our first two bounties have been placed. That should kick things up a notch in the Arena tonight.

Re-written Death rules....
Mechwarrior Death Rules (re-written for Battle #3)
Ok Here are the NEW Rules for Mechwarrior Death.....Sort of a middle ground to keep everyone happy, and I think will be the best for the long run of the campaign. The current way is too liberal, the reset to 0 to conservative.
Think of the Solaris Olympiad as a larger series of 50+ contestants (kinda like Scotts suggestion). We just happen to be running the guys that are the leaders of the contest, or the guys in the "Main Event" of that months contests. When your guy dies another will be "Called up" to fill the spot in the "Main Event".
When your guy dies, you will make up a new guy (that is considered one of the "other" constants) using the following...
- Subtract 5 from your Fame with a minimum of 0. (as it was the moment after you die, +all your fame for the battle up to that point, -2 for destroyed mech, -0.5 for being injured). If you were at Negative Fame when you died, it is reset to 0.
- You lose all your skills, abilities, stables, sponsors and reserve mechs in your mech bay. You are not refunded for those losses.
- Your CP is reset to 10 and you get +2 for every battle we have had up to this point. So if your guy died in battle #3, you would get 16 CP for your new guy.
- You lose all your C-Bills resetting them to 0, You receive C-Bills equal to the average value of the all the Battlemechs in the last battle, (fallback mechs count as $0).
- Any awards (Murphy or Contest awards) the dead mechwarrior would have received in the contest he died in are forfeit.
- Taking the 6th pilot hit.
- Head destruction.
- Cockpit Critical.
- Ammo Explosion in a mech without CASE and the auto-eject turned off.
- Ammo Explosion in the Center Torso with CASE and the auto-eject is turned off.
- The head floods when underwater and a structural check is failed.
- Ejecting from your mech with a structure directly over your mech. (Ishiyama - tunnels, in a building, under a bridge...)
What to do if your mechwarrior dies
- Lose your mech...you no longer have it
- Subtract 5 from your Fame (add in all fame earned up to and including the moment of the mechwarriors death.)
- Set your CP to 0
- Get 10CP +2 more CP for each battle we have had in the campaign so far. Dieing in Battle #3 will get you 16 CP for your new character for Battle #4.
- Remove any Skills, abilities, stables, sponsors or reserve mechs you might have had.
- Set your C-Bills to $0.
- Receive the Average C-Bill value of all mechs in the last battle (combine split battles, meaning all mechs from battle 2A and 2B not just the half you were in).
- Pick your new faction. (If you want to stay the same you can skip this step)
- Create a new Name and Call sign for your new mechwarrior.
